Commonly Asked Questions

Who should take this course?  Regardless of your shooting experience, the NRA Basic Pistol Course teaches the core fundamentals of handgun safety so that you can handle your pistol with confidence.  Whether it's a visit to the range or plinking with your family, you'll be able to preform with confidence and safety in mind.

In the NRA Basic Pistol Course, you will learn how to properly handle, transport, and store your handgun.  You will also learn the importance of keeping children and unauthorized people safe around handguns. Moreover, if you do not currently own a handgun, or have not even held one for that matter, this course will prepare you for handgun ownership based on years of experience from both the instructor and the NRA.

It’s a simple fact that handguns are out there.  In fact, over 14.6 million were sold in 2025 alone.  At some point, it’s likely that you or a loved one will encounter a handgun—that’s why it's important to learn about them ... even if you aren't a handgun owner. Taking this course will give you the knowledge necessary to think objectively and to act safely around handguns.

Who teaches what classes?  All classes are taught by Vance Williamson. For larger classes, Vance may be assisted by certified NRA Safety Officers. We offer two types of classes ... Private and Small Group.

Private Lessons are taught by Vance Williamson (by appointment only).  Please text me to arrange a time at 205-807-9940.  Please note that due to spam calls, I will not answer a phone call from a number that is not recognized by my phone ... meaning that until I add you top my phone, texting is the best way to get in touch with me.

Small Group classes are designed for families or friends with the total number of people being five or less.
